Yankeetown is a small riverfront town of about 500 people at the mouth of the Withlacoochee River in southern Levy County, founded in the 1920s.
The road into town, CR 40, is known as Follow That Dream Parkway, named for the Elvis Presley movie filmed here. The Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve surrounds much of the area.
Ancient oaks, riverfront docks and kayaks set the tone, and the town works hard to protect its Old Florida character. It’s an artist-and-angler kind of place, popular with retirees and people who work in Crystal River or Dunnellon.
