Five Stars, in Our Customers’ Own Words
Real reviews from Google, word for word.
Alex and the team at Old Florida Moving were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They were professional, courteous, efficient, and incredibly communicative throughout the entire process. What really impressed me was the level of care they took with our furniture – and especially with our large rugs. They carefully measured everything, rotated the rugs, and placed each piece with incredible precision. Everything ended up exactly where it needed to be, and the attention to detail was exceptional. It’s rare to find movers who combine efficiency with this level of care and professionalism. Alex was wonderful to work with, and I would highly recommend Old Florida Moving to anyone looking for a moving company they can truly trust. Five stars without hesitation!
Very professional and hardworking moving company. I would highly recommend. They were on time and had a friendly positive attitude. Good price too.
We hired Alex and his crew at Old Florida Moving to move my grandmother from Gainesville to Crystal River, and they did an amazing job. My grandmother was especially worried about her antique vanity that means so much to her, but they handled it with incredible care and professionalism. Alex personally came out to the job with his crew, and you could tell they truly cared. Everything arrived safely, and the whole move was smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend Old Florida Moving!

Moving In or Out of Hawthorne?
Hawthorne is a small city at the intersection of US 301 and SR 20, about 17 miles east of Gainesville. It was incorporated as the City of Hawthorn in 1881, named for early landowner James M. Hawthorn, and the spelling became Hawthorne in 1950.
Two rail lines once crossed here, making Hawthorne a transfer point, and the 1912 railroad station still stands. One of those old rail corridors is now the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail, a 16-mile paved path for walking and cycling into Gainesville.
Outdoors is a big part of life here. Lindsey Phillips Park on Johnson Lake has a boat ramp and fishing pier, Little Orange Creek Nature Park opened in 2017, and the 11,000-plus acre Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area borders the city.
Whether you’re moving onto a few acres, closer to the trail, or out of Hawthorne to anywhere in Florida, Old Florida Moving is ready to help.

That’s me, Alex, the owner. I answer the phone, I quote the job, and I’m on the truck the day you move. Thirteen years in professional moving, and I like the quiet country jobs out here as much as the big city ones.
🗺️ Getting Around Hawthorne
US 301 runs north to Waldo and south toward Ocala, while SR 20 heads west into Gainesville. The paved state trail is another link to the city for cyclists.
🏫 Schools
Shell Elementary School and Hawthorne Middle/High School serve the community through Alachua County Public Schools. The city also has an Alachua County Library District branch.
🌿 Local Character
Lakes, woods and wildlife land all around, with a small historic downtown and a rural pace of life.
💼 Economy
Once built on citrus, cotton, the railroad and timber, Hawthorne today is home to many residents who commute to Gainesville.
