The city of Alachua is the second-most populous city in Alachua County, growing from about 9,059 residents in 2010 to 10,574 in 2020. It sits along I-75 northwest of Gainesville, with US 441 running right through Main Street.
Alachua was founded in 1884 when residents of nearby Newnansville, once the county seat, moved to the new rail line. The town was incorporated in 1905, and cotton-era Queen Anne homes and brick storefronts now make up the Downtown Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today the city is known for Progress Corporate Park and the UF Innovate Sid Martin Biotech Incubator, the heart of one of Florida’s largest bio and life science clusters. San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, once home to a 1606 Spanish mission, lies just to the south.

I-75 passes just west of downtown with an interchange at US 441 (Exit 399). US 441 runs through Main Street and on to High Springs.
